Only a few weeks remain until the 2025 Summer Leadership Institute (SLI), taking place in Kansas City, Missouri from July 14-16, 2025. Participants will explore local landmarks, learn about trends and issues in social studies research, enjoy multiple opportunities for reflection and networking, and hear from experts in social studies education including presidential historian and Executive Director of the George Washington Presidential Library Dr. Lindsay M. Affiliated Councils: Open Calls for Proposals
The 2025 Kentucky Council for the Social Studies (KCSS) Annual Conference will take place on Monday, September 13th, at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort. This year’s theme—“Sharing Our Common Wealth”—focuses on how to empower teachers and students of social studies to implement effective inquiry strategies and vibrant learning experiences across multiple social studies disciplines. Submit a proposal here by August 1, 2025.
The 2025 Oklahoma Council for the Social Studies (OCSS) Annual Conference will take place on Monday, September 29th, at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. This year’s theme—“When in the course of human events…”—invites us to reflect on pivotal moments in history and the power of civic engagement, both past and present. Submit a proposal here by August 15, 2025.
Founding Forward: Free Summer Professional Development
Founding Forward, a national civic education, is still accepting applications for its 2025 week-long seminars, traveling workshops, and three-day weekend summits taking place in July and August, including programs on Lafayette's Revolution in America & France and the Declaration of Independence. Accepted teachers receive a scholarship to attend the program, which covers the cost of the program, hotel room, program materials, site visits, most meals, and more.
