Raise Your Voice for Social Studies on Capitol Hill

Join NCSS on Thursday, December 4, 2025, for our 2025 Hill Day in Washington, D.C. This will be a powerful day of advocacy, learning, and impact where attendees can connect with fellow educators, meet with legislators, and share how social studies strengthens our democracy. The day will include advocacy training from Thorn Run Partners, policy insights from iCivics, and hands-on preparation for your Capitol Hill meetings. Leave-behind materials, talking points, training, and public transit pass will be provided to all registrants. The cost to participate is $25. Register now. 

International Assembly Grad Student Meet & Greet

The NCSS International Assembly (IA) invites graduate students attending the 105th NCSS Annual Conference to join them for a special Grad Student Meet & Greet. Come network, share your research, and build community across borders at 7-8 AM on Friday, December 5, at Room 140A in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Thomas B. Griffith served on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the D. C. Circuit for fifteen years. Before that he was the nonpartisan chief lawyer for the U. S. Senate and the General Counsel at Brigham Young University. President Biden appointed Judge Griffith to his Commission on the Supreme Court. Currently, Judge Griffith is a Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School, works closely with Utah Governor Spencer Cox on his Disagree Better initiative, and is a member of the Board of Directors of iCivics. Hakeem Jeffries represents the diverse Eighth Congressional District of New York and is serving his seventh term in the United States Congress. Rep. Jeffries is the Democratic Leader, having been unanimously elected to that position by his colleagues in November 2022. In that capacity, he is the highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives. He is also the former Chair of the Democratic Caucus, Whip of the Congressional Black Caucus and previously co-chaired the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee where he helped develop the For The People agenda.

Hasan Kwame Jeffries is a historian who teaches, researches, and writes about the African American experience with a focus on historical understanding and civic engagement. He chairs the board of The Montpelier Foundation, which stewards the Virginia estate of James Madison, helping to shape a more inclusive public interpretation of America’s founding. He regularly lends historical insight to national conversations about race and democracy, appearing in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, on NPR, CNN, and MSNBC. More.

Erin Entrada Kelly is the author of multiple Newbery Medal–winning novels and The First State of Being, which was also named a finalist for the National Book Award. She teaches in the MFA in writing for children and young adults program at Hamline University. Before becoming a children’s author, Erin worked as a journalist and magazine editor and received numerous awards for community service journalism, feature writing, and editing from the Louisiana Press Association and the Associated Press. Sam Feist is the Chief Executive Officer of C-SPAN, the third CEO in the network's 46-year history. He oversees all aspects of C-SPAN's operations and strategic direction. Prior to joining C-SPAN, Feist spent 30 years at CNN, most recently serving as Washington bureau chief and senior vice president. He oversaw CNN's internal fact-checking team, Special Events unit, and was the executive in charge of CNN en Español. More.
